Lose the Weight - Take Back Your Life
By: Suan Yuan, M.D., Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatric Surgery
Pottstown, PA – May, 2015 – Weight-loss surgery offers hope to those who have tried and failed to lose weight for better health. Being overweight can have a serious impact on your mental, emotional and physical well-being. Surgical weight loss is a tool that helps put a stop to the diet-gain weight-repeat cycle, and improves people’s overall health.
“Weight-loss surgery changes the way your body processes food,” said Sean Yuan, M.D. “Combined with appropriate lifestyle changes, weight-loss surgery can have a lasting impact on how you look and feel and help correct chronic medical issues.”
Changing Your Life
Weight-loss surgery is more than a single procedure – it’s a guided lifestyle change. Preparation for this new way of living starts before surgery at an educational weight-loss seminar.
As part of a weight-loss plan, bariatric surgery can help people manage and in some cases cure common weight-related health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, arthritis and stress incontinence.
Reduced weight can help alleviate joint pain and improve mobility, making it easier for formerly obese patients to engage in the activities they love. As a result, weight-loss patients often have better self-confidence, reduced stress and a higher quality of life than they did before surgery.
“To qualify for weight-loss surgery, patients must be 18 or older and have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater. Dr. Yuan said “Patients who have a lower BMI of at least 35 are also considered candidates if they suffer from health conditions caused or affected by the excess weight, such as high blood pressure, diabetes or obstructive sleep apnea.”
