Pottstown Hospital–Tower Health employees donated more than $20,000 to area charities in 2018.
A portion of the donations were made through “Casual for a Cause”, a weekly dress-down day spearheaded by the Celebrate and Recognize Employees’ Work committee (CREW) at Pottstown Hospital. The CREW committee was established in 2013 as a great way to engage employees in efforts to give back to the community. Each month, a charity is designated and every week, employees pay $3 for a “Casual for a Cause” sticker that allows them wear jeans and Pottstown Hospital spirit wear on Fridays. The total for the month is calculated and a check is sent on behalf of the hospital employees to one of the area charities.
“I am continually amazed by the generosity of Pottstown Hospital’s employees,” said Rich Newell, President and CEO. “Whether it is supporting “Casual for a Cause”, volunteering in the Pottstown community, serving on boards of local organizations, and collecting shoes for “In Ian’s Boots”, among many other service opportunities, Pottstown Hospital’s employees are engaged in the community and enjoy helping to make a difference.”
Organizations supported in 2018 include the Pottstown Library, Tri-County Active Adult Center, Foundation for Pottstown Education, Amazing Raise, and Boyertown Multi-Service. Health-related organizations supported by Pottstown Hospital – Tower Health “Casual for a Cause” include The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women, Gift of Life, National Stroke Association and The American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink.
The remaining $12,000 was raised by employees through Pottstown Hospital – Tower Health’s participation in Tri-County Network’s Amazing Raise, a giving challenge that brings together the region to help raise needed funds, shining a spotlight on the work of non-profits in the Tri-County Area (Montgomery County, Eastern Berks County, Northern Chester County).
