Jefferson Neuroscience Network

Pottstown Hospital has joined the Jefferson Neuroscience Network (JNN). Through this collaboration, Jefferson and Pottstown Hospital provides some of the most sophisticated care and expertise available Teleto patients with time-sensitive neurovascular diseases. By joining JNN, Pottstown Hospital offers patients access to the resources of Jefferson’s comprehensive stroke center, including community education programs, leading edge clinical trials and advanced protocols for the detection and treatment of stroke and other neuroscience disorders.

Pottstown Hospital also has access to Jefferson Expert Teleconsulting (JET), a high-tech mobile robotic system, for remote consultations from Jefferson’s neuroscience specialists.

The JET network provides patients, their families and physicians with expert consultation from Jefferson neurologists and neurosurgeons experienced in treating time-sensitive neurovascular diseases, such as stroke, within moments – 24/7.

Pottstown Hospital has a mobile robotic platform that enables the Jefferson physician to be remotely present. JET’s panoramic visualization system and easy-to-use control interface, offers safety and an effective interactive experience.

By joining JNN, Pottstown Hospital offers patients access to the resources of Jefferson’s comprehensive stroke center, including community education programs, leading edge clinical trials and advanced protocols for the detection and treatment of stroke and other neuroscience disorders. Our emergency physicians and neurologists will work in collaboration with the experts at Jefferson to determine the best course of care for our patients.

JNN was established to place all of our resources, among them, vascular neurologists, dual-trained neurosurgeons, advanced technology, leading clinical trials in which we partner with the National Institutes of Health, and community education on neuroscience issues, at the disposal of patients, their families and physicians of hospitals participating in the network.

  • The ER Physician at Pottstown Hospital makes one phone call to Jefferson
  • Within moments, the Jefferson specialist on call uses a laptop to “beam in” and speak with the attending physician, patient and family members at Pottstown Hospital, via the robot.
  • In real time and without delay, the Jefferson specialist obtains a medical history by speaking directly with the patient and/or family members. With the assistance of Pottstown Hospital’s ER Staff, the Jefferson physician examines the patient and reviews the CT scans and lab results remotely. In consultation with the attending Brandywine physician, Jefferson neurovascular specialists provide recommendations for immediate treatment.
  • Finally, a decision is made to either admit the patient to Pottstown Hospital or to transfer him/her to a different hospital, such as Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, with the clinical expertise and resources to further treat the patient. Thanks to the JET program, patients often do not need to be transferred – they can remain and be treated very successfully at Pottstown Hospital.
